Makin Progress on the Projects

Recently I discovered an online auction site called Equip Bids. Don't know if this is a national thing or just local here in Kansas City but oh my, I may be in trouble. They post a lot of online auctions (maybe like 8 or 9). Each auction has the start and end date and where the items have to be picked up. Most bids, about 90% of them, start at $10.00. They auction everything from restaurant equipment to collectibles to land. I found one I was interested in and bid on 4 items, all from the comfort of my couch. I won 3 things. Nobody bid against me so each lot was $10.00. Wanna see what I got?

Old cardboard suitcase, tablecloths and bag of spools and buttons.
There was so many cool things that no one bid on, I wish I would have bid on a few more items, but I was happy with what I got. All headed for the booth (except the buttons which have already been added to my stash). Fun site and I already have my eye on a few upcoming auctions. Like I said, I might be in trouble.

Ooh so purdy!
This is a bridge tablecloth. I like the bees.

This is a little rough but still neat.
I had to go pick up my items in Raymore,Mo about 15 minutes away. There is a  thrift store there that is only open on Saturday. It's run by little old ladies. Since it was Saturday and I love little old lady run thrift stores I had to stop. I was looking for shelving and bigger items for my new booth. I found several things that just needed a little TLC.
Nice sturdy metal shelves, now they look like this
It's going to hold all my vintage kids stuff. I need to add more shelf liner.
Also found this cool old newspaper rack
(Ignore the garbage can) I thought it was awesome but def in need of a makeover.
Here it is after a little paint and chalkboard sign
It turned out so cute that it somehow made its way into my bathroom. Whoops, that ones a keeper.
I also found this rolling cart with a homemade wood shelf
I think it was some sort of office cart. It also got a makeover
Painted the cart, and sanded and stained the wood. I was thinking to myself that it sure would make a great nightstand. Then I was thinking, gee, my daughters room could really use a cute nightstand. You know where this is going right? Yes I kept it. It looks freakin awesome in her room though! I will show you next week and you will agree with me that I made the right decision 😄.
I did find another set of shelves at GW that I also painted and those are going to the booth!
While I was in booth/project/spray paint mode I decided to make one more thing. Last year I ordered 12 mini clipboards off of eBay. Not sure why, I think I was going to do some project that I saw on Pinterest and have now forgotten. Anyway they were nothing special, just cheap wooden clipboards
Green chalkboard spray paint, some flower Washi tape, and about an hour of time and I had this
A banner to hang in the booth! I think it turned out nice.

Here's a close up. My hubby said my I looks like a J but he's a guy so we don't listen to him.

Well that's all for now. My spray paint buzz is wearing off so I better get back out there. Have a thrifty fun week!

No I Dont Qualify for Senior Discount, Thanks for Asking

Magpie Ethel creation from a few years ago.

Tomorrow is my birthday. It's also my hubby's, he's turning the big 5 0. So were gonna celebrate his and forget about mine, thankyouverymuch. I was at Salvation Army the other day and the cashier asked me if I qualified for the senior discount. Um, no (I'm turning 47). She said "well if your close I can still give you the senior discount" Again, no. I mean I'm not 30 anymore but come on, I don't look 55! Just hurry up and ring my crap up full price so I can go home and cry!

I decided to combat my old lady blues with some shopping. 2 estate sales, garage sale and a couple thrifts. My first stop was a garage sale. Out of 30 Craigslist sales, 2 looked good. This one promised lots of "antiquities". I got there right at 8am. There were already 15 people crammed in the garage snapping up the good stuff left and right. I kept picking things up and the lady running the sale would say "that's someone's pile". Damn! Why don't I have a pile? Anyway I managed to find three things

Green picnic basket, old wisk broom and tiny tin. The mother mug came from the thrift store and I'm gonna plant a cute flower in it for Mothers Day.

This Butterscotch Waffle cookie tin is so cute.  Yum! But seriously, how many cookies could it hold? Not enough is the answer.

Estate sales were kind of a vintage bust, but great for ebay resale items. I did find a few older items
Set of silverware in original box and an empty vintage birthday candle box for my collection. Silverware headed to ebay.

The other day I went to a hugely overpriced estate sale.  Reminded me why I usually avoid estate sales. #ripoff.
Found two things that weren't shockingly expensive
A new vintage look paper doll book which will be great for 4th of July decorating, and the cutest pink toy mixer ever made.

So cute. It even spins and makes a whir sound when you squeeze it. I posted it on Instagram (my second IG post ever) it got 15 likes so that makes me pretty cool right? If you also think I'm cool and wanna follow me my IG name is MCOOK1015, I think.

Ok, now for my most exciting news, I rented a booth! It's at the antique mall that my mom and I used to have a booth at. Super clean and lots of foot traffic. I was really missing having one so I decided to take the plunge. Let the shopping commence! (Like I need an excuse). I move in on Sunday so I will be a busy girl getting things ready. Pics to come! Til then, have a great weekend!

Who'll give me $5.00? Apparently Me

My mom and I went to an auction tonight. This auction house does an antiques and collectibles auction once a month and always on a Wednesday. I work almost every Wednesday so I've never been. Tonight I was off so I decided to check it out. First off let's just say "antiques and collectibles" is a bit of a stretch. Some neat stuff but most stuff was junk (and not good junk). However I did bring home a few things
They had three quilts for sale. Guess who came home with all three? I really wanted the pink one and was willing to take someone out for it. Didn't have to take anyone out, only one person was bidding against me and she gave up when I gave her a death stare. (No I didn't, I'm not that mean). The other two nobody was bidding on. He kept lowering the bid. When it got to $5.00 I stuck my hand up high. Somebody bid me up to 10.00, that's cool. They are worth 10.00 right?
Here's the pink
This ones a keeper.

These two will go on eBay...
The yellow and blue one is pretty but I didn't realize until I got home that it has a (bad) patch job right smack in the middle.
I also bought a picture, a kind of ugly picture. In my defense it was clear across the room and I couldn't see it very well. Then I forgot it there. It only cost $5.00 and oh yeah, it was ugly so I won't be going back for it.
The last thing I bought I'm kinda questioning. As in "what the hell was I thinking?" My mom said I was all caught up in the auction madness. Ya think? Well I'll let you guys be the judge.

They are old wooden awnings. I was thinking maybe I could make them into book holders? And yeah, I bought two. After I won the auctioneer looked at me and said "times two?" I didn't know what he meant so I panicked and said sure! Now I know that means I am buying two of the same dumb thing. Live and learn.
Any ideas what else they could be? If nothing else I can always unscrew the wood boards from the brackets and use the wood in a project.
My mom bought a beautiful stained glass ceiling fan. I didn't take a pic but it is gorgeous. $25.00 which is a steal.
So it was a fun time. I'll definetly go again. But this time I'll bring better glasses. And maybe more common sense.

Random Things

Well hello! Haven't blogged in awhile, the last month has kept me busy. Fist my father in law died, so wake, funeral etc back in Nebraska. Such a nice man, he suffered with Alzheimer's for the past 7 years, so I'm sad he's gone but glad he is no longer suffering. RIP Grandpa Bob. Then I visited my daughter in Arkansas for moms weekend for her Sorority. It was a fast trip, I was only there 24 hours and did no thrifting:(. I went back to Arkansas this past weekend to visit my son for moms weekend for his Fraternity and I was determined to find a bit of time to shop. I had a spare hour while he was at a meeting and I forced my daughter to take me somewhere, anywhere, to cure my junking urge. We found a going out of business flea market. All booths 50% off. Now were talking!
I found these plastic restroom plaques. Hailey told me not to put them on our bathroom door, it was "embarrassing". They're already up :) trust me, I have way more to embarrass her with then some dumb plaques.
I've wanted an old school clock forevah! Usually they cost a pretty penny but this one was more an ugly nickel. Ok lots of ugly nickles ($30.00 worth) but I didn't think that was toooo bad. Bonus, my hubby never has too much of an opinion about anything I buy. He usually justs grunts in my general direction "ya, whatever, that's nice" but he actually really liked this clock.
I also found these sweet hankies new in box
2.00 which is way to cheap to pass up don'tcha think? I have a hankie display idea that I've been thinking about trying. We shall see if that ever happens.

Today I got a present in the mail from my bestest aunt. I love mail (fun mail, not bills) I love vintage mail the best. She has been searching for crocheted hot pads to add to my collection. She found THE GREATEST ONES!

Dresses and pants and vests oh my!!
SEERSLY how cute are these??
Have you ever even seen one made into a vest?

These are little. Only about 6-7". A jumpsuit? I die.

These dresses go cute with the two I recently found (the pink and turquoise one)
So thanks Aunt Lesty! Made me a happy girl!

Here are the ones I currently have hanging in my kitchen

And here's a big ole empty wall space just begging for some more
You can bet this will be filled soon. No empty sauffets! Faucets? Safets? Whatever those dumb things are called.

In project news I made a project. The end. Oh wait, you wanna see it? Well alrighty then! First a little backstory. A month or so ago I sold this clock on eBay
Found it for $3 ish sold it for $70.00. Yay happy dance right? Wrong :(  if you guessed that it broke during shipping you win. I packed that sucker good and it still broke. The buyer sent me a message, you packed it well but you have to tighten down the lock blah blah blah. Gave me a big (but nice) lecture on the proper way to ship. Whatev. I'm over it. So I decide to file a case with the post office to see if I could get my money back. One week later a nice fat $70.00 check arrived! Happy dance is back on! WhooHoo! Of course I spent that money faster than you can say "wanna go to goodwill?" Also I had the clock back. What's a girl to do with a broken clock? Gut it and paint it of course!
It is now a cloche holding my very important ball of string and scissors and making them look even more important. Please don't touch it's under glass .
So that's been the news around here. Fascinating I know.
