I'm in Hog Heaven! I got a vintage Canned Ham Camper!

Meet Hammy, my new to me 1950's vintage camper. Isn't it adorable? About two years ago my friend Tim told me that his sister had this camper that she might want to sell. I have literally bugged him for TWO years to ask her if she would sell it to me. This week my dream came true! Not only did she sell me it, she sold it for an unreal, fantastic price. The good news is that it has a new suspension system, redone electrical work, custom built metal storage boxes and new paint. The down side is the interior has not been touched in 60 years. But hey, thats the fun part as far as I'm concerned! AmIRight?? It's full of junk but as soon as it gets cleaned out I will post a pic of the interior. Need lots of before pics so we can follow the progress of this cutie getting the vintage royal treatment! Now that's what I call a vintage finds post! How was your week?

Fabulous Friday Finds

Ok whoever sent the good thrift vibes my way last weekend thank you, thank you very much. Two estate sales and  a few garage sales yielded this haul

Yep, it was a good day. 

These two handmade kids cupboards are killing me with their cuteness

The lady having the estate sale was in her 70's and said her dad made them for her when she was a little girl. Aww. How sweet. Kinda amazed me that she hung onto them all these years then sold them at a sale for 10 bucks. Look, the drawers were made out of cigar boxes and were still full of little kitchen utensils

Also hit all the holiday categories. Christmas finds included two santa mugs, tons of Christmas cards and seals this awesome box with a a snowman that once held cherry flavored marshmallow candy, also a box o' knee huggers

That's right, a whole box.

Thanksgiving finds were some turkey paper plates and napkins and nut cups that look like...Not sure, maybe corn stalks?

A PINK princess phone, AND a TURQUOISE desk phone. They are sitting on an old Sunkist Lemons crate. Cute blue metal Boycraft tool box, an old metal roly cart, a huge locker basket, an old metal bike basket, two globes, two wooden yo yo's (for my sons collection) a Remple rubber lamb, a box of buttons, and a red tin bread box. . Wanna see what was in that red breadbox? 

These two cool old cans. Check out those graphics!  You think these were coffee cans? If so I would have started drinking coffee just to buy these. The circus fabric makes me smile and those bird clothes pins are sahweeet! So yeah, a good day! Well, since this post is already this long I will throw one more photo at ya. So it was also prom weekend and my twins Hunter and Hailey both went. They are seniors this year and they are my youngest kids so this was my last prom ever! Tear. Aren't they adorable? 

And no, they didn't go together! Ha! This was before the dates arrived. And no, that isn't beer in my sons hand, it's a diet coke (I think? I hope?)  Have a great week!

Thrifty finds

So my  finds have been sorta meh lately. What's up with that?? There are a bunch of estate sales and garage sales this weekend so maybe my luck will change. I'm jonesin for a good haul. Anyway, on to the finds.

I got the cute red canisters at an antique store (10 bucks for the set!) the rest came from Goodwill. The plaid thermos set is like brand new, small ball jar (.99!) and the placemat is oilcloth. I actually bought two of them for a project. Here is what the back looked like

Some fun bunting. Still gotta sew it together so it should  be done sometime around never. I'm terrible at finishing things but I think I'll give this a try cuz come on, it's adorable!

Also got this old readers digest book cut into a M and a little cream color stool at a garage sale. I took all my Easter decs down so I redid my shelves. I hate styling shelves. I look on Pinterst and think, heck ya, I can do that, then go to do it and crap, I got nothin. Do you guys do that? Anyway I switched it all up and this is what I came up with. Thoughts??

Seems maybe too busy? Add some greenery? Chuck it all and start over? Well for now it can stay cuz I'm way to tired to care. That's it for now. Have a super glorious thrifty week, and send some good thrift vibes my way!!

Large and in Charge Thrift Weekend

So I had a busy thrifting Sunday. Thrifted from dawn to dusk! I have been wanting to check out our downtown flea market which is held every Sunday morning, so I woke up early and headed out. There wasn't quite as many quality vendors as I had hoped but I did find a few things

A cast iron urn or vase, a yellow pig, and an old pharmacy bottle. The vase will be great at Halloween with a pumpkin on top (I may plant some flowers in the meantime even though I have a black thumb) the bottle is for my son who is heading off to college this fall and wants to be a pharmacist, and the pig will go to my growing collection

I'm up to eight.  I know the fat one in the back is a little different but he's plastic and he's a bank so in my made up just now rules, he counts!  Am I anywhere close to you Laurie? 

My next stop was a downtown Antique store. Cool stuff but CRAZY high prices so didn't buy a thing. Seriously, some people do NOT want to really sell their crap! 

On my way back uptown I hit a Goodwill. Don't go to this particular GW a lot because it's sorta far from my house, but glad I stopped cuz I found my second fav find of the day...

P is for Pumpkin! Awesome. Did I mention huge? 14" tall and 10" wide. Did I mention they cost me a buck? One measly dollar. I know, wipe your tears, they're  all mine. Ha!

 By now I was on a pretty good junk drunk so I couldn't quit yet, am I right? I decided to pick up my mom and sis and shop some more. On the way there I stopped at a garage sale. Got a handmade old doll bed (which is still currently in my car, too lazy to go get it) and a bunch of stuff for ebay for cheap and some Pyrex.

I know this may be hard to believe but I don't collect Pyrex. I used to sell it in my booth but now that I don't have a booth I usually don't buy it. But for $5 I figured maybe I could sell it online. Pretty pattern though. After picking up my mom and sister we headed for yet another small town with a cute downtown and lots of good stores. There seems to be no end to these small towns around Kansas City.  Anyway, on to the goodies. Remember how I said the flash cards were my second fav find of the day. Well here is my first favorite find...

It is a HUGE vintage German paper mâché  Easter egg. Like 16" huge. Like bigger than two of my  heads huge. Now you may be thinking that this is a pretty good score, and you would be right. But you know what would make it even better? 8 smaller eggs nesting inside!!!!

They all fit inside each other like nesting dolls. How cool is that? I have never seen these before. Have any of you? These were at an antique store so my cheapo self was NOT going to buy them. But I was smitten. It didn't help that my mom and sister were urging me on. "You'll never find these again", "You could resell them for 3 times as much" (as if) "You just had a birthday, you deserve it".  Ok maybe that last thought was my own, but the deed was done. I bought them, I love them and now I gotta figure out how to hide them.  No, not for Easter, from my husband, who will kill me if he knows I spent $95.00 on eggs (gulp).  I kid, he doesn't really care and besides, ebay money paid for them! Oh yeah!

They say it's your Birthday, it's my Birthday too yeah!

March is a month for birthdays around here. My sister and I both have a March birthday. Except she is 10 years younger than me. And cuter. And nicer.  I hate her. Kidding! She is all of those things but I love her dearly. March is also my husbands birthday (it's actually the same day as mine but he's three years older) but for the purposes of this blog post we don't care about him :) Back  to me and my sis. We decided to spend the day doing what we do best...Shopping, of course! We went to this quaint little town with brick sidewalks, cute shops, a train. You know, all Norman Rockwellish. So fun and of course we found some treasures! Here's mine

Cute dress clothespin bag to add to my collection. I hang these over my washer and dryer to hide some of the ugliness of my basement. You think it's working?

Probably not but they make me smile. 

Also got this fabric covered letter C, vintage hanky box and my eagle eyed sis spotted that Easter Gurley candle to add to my collection!

The bread box was found at the thrift store a few weeks back. Perfect Jadeite green. The red letters were also found at the thrift. There were actually 5 letters that spelled GREAT. I'm not GREAT but I do love to EAT so I ditched the G and the R. 

I thought this hanky box was sweet but look how they abbreviated Hankercheif. Hdkf's ?? They would have been terrible at texting back in the day. 

My sister got some cute stuff too. But she can get her own blog! (Seriously Mindi, get a blog!)  Have a great (eat!) week!

Happy Vintage Valentines Day!

Truckin Along

So my mom and I did a bit of thriftin/antiquing last week and I thought I'd share some of my finds. Normally I bring home my stuff and it gets stuffed in a closet, box, drawer or open spot till I figure out how and where to use it. This time I put all my finds into commish right away! 

Got this perfect shade of green table cloth, this old red truck that was missing the cab and peeking in the background is a set of orange vintage lockers. 

First up, the truck. It was dirt cheap cuz of the missing cab, but fine by me, the better to make this...

Saw this in a Country Living and have been wanting to copy it forever. Who knew succulents were so darn cute? And easy to grow? And cheap? Well I'm on to them now and seriously in love. Here's a few more pics

I also put that tablecloth to use. I know, I know, it's very spring looking and we currently have 10" of snow on the ground but hey, I'm trying to pretend its 70 and lovely out. 

Last but definitely not least are those lockers. Vintage lockers, orange color, grids, ugh! What's not to love? These suckers prompted a whole room redo. My son is away at college so surely he won't mind if I vintage up his room a bit? I don't have a befor pic because I am a piss poor blogger but here is the after...

Vintage globes on top.

The wall used to have a bulletin board that I made on it. I took it apart and was left with a big black square.  I didn't have any paint to cover it so I decided to make it a bigger black square and turn it into a chalkboard. The orange color of the lockers also prompted me to get out the sewing machine (gasp!) and whip up a cute pillow

Some old ticking fabric and a vintage letterman letter was all I needed. 

My vintage chalk collection found a home on the desk. The desk was found a few years ago at my friends mom's estate sale. It came out of an old hotel in downtown Kansas City. The top lifts up and folds back to reveal little cubbies. Makes a perfect bedside table. 

The other side of the room needs some work. I put a table in here for a desk but would like to find an old chippy white table and add some shelves to the wall.  My sis gave me the awesome porcelain sign. She found it at a thrift store for $6.00. Yowzers! Wish that happened every day!
